Very impressed that this mill is still functional! Great place for pictures and a short hike. Interesting method of water power generation that the mill used. In its day must have been high tech.
Water flowing from upstream through elevated trough. Authentic and beautiful. Rapid stream after rain.
Beautiful old Mill not too far off the road and a short pleasant hike. Not a traditional water wheel, but a turbine instead. In the past it was still in operation and grinding corn. Last couple of times has been in disrepair, but you can still go inside. Great photo opportunities. Bathrooms located in parking area. Open 9am to 5pm mid March to mid November. The NC Mountain to Sea Trail passes by.
I think this is a great gem. It’s looked over by a lot of people but I think it’s a great visit. Go in the summer and you can see it running in its glory. It uses a turbine rather than a water wheel so the set up is different from other grist meals you may see.
Very tropical and beautiful as you walk along the diverted water trough flowing through the woods to the grist mill.
