We have been there several times and will be back many more!
We have, I am sure we always will have, wonderful memories with Don and Gail. We love the cabin on the water. We fish right there behind the cabin, caught 10 fish the first day!
Rude! Rude! We went to visit my friends that stayed there.We were staying at the Blankenship cabins up the road. Don came out and told us we had to pay to visit our friends. I tried to tell him in a very nice manner that we were just visiting for a little while. But he cut me off and in front of my child told me to "shut the hell up and let him talk". I have never been spoken to that way in my life. We had just spent around $300 at his store getting fishing license and tackle.I will never enter his store again. My friends will never rent his cabin again. Irene Alderman
Don is one of the most rude people I have met in WNC .Went to buy a day permit to fish and he said he couldn't understand me because I was from Florida and the cold weather (ruint) my voice! I will not recommend or return to his shop. He put the wrong date on my license and I Almost got fined by the game warden.

These people are rude! We went to visit family that were staying there and were told we would have to pay to visit. This man was rude in front of my children threaten to have my nephew removed from his property simply because he was questioning why we had to leave. When my brother in law went to talk to them about what was going on he was told they would rather we stay at our hotel and not visit. This place was so bad that my brother in law and his family left a day early because of the way they were treated and how they treated us. Do not stay here; these people act as if you are not wanted.
Oh my what fun we had. Don and Gail were both wonderful to work with. The cabin was quaint and tidy and sat on a beautiful clear river with abundant trout. Especially abundant when after my none year old daughter struggled to get a catch...he placed a call to the hatchery and before long the river was filled. We spent two and a half days here and I wish it had been more! My hubby and I and my three kiddo ranging in age from 6-15 all had a great time. I highly recommend Big Dons for a family getaway!
